NHS hostile environment data-sharing
Liberty acted as lawyers for Migrants’ Rights Network (MRN) in a case against NHS data-sharing. MRN challenged the secret Memorandum of Understanding that allowed confidential patient information to be shared with the Home Office for immigration enforcement purposes.
MRN had evidence that the data-sharing agreement was causing people to avoid seeking healthcare in case they were later detained or deported after doing so – with fatal consequences.
After we started legal proceedings, the Government agreed to stop sharing data based on the secret agreement.
