BRITAIN, KEEP COMPLAINING!
People talking loudly, e-bikes, the football. We've all got gripes. And in Britain, we love to make them known. As is our right.
Britain loves a good ol’ moan. People disagree about politics, parenting, the planet… and where best to leave your e-bike.
Complaining is one of the ways we exercise our freedom to disagree, object and make a fuss.
We’re fortunate to live in a diverse nation shaped by many identities and perspectives, which means differences of opinion and sometimes uncomfortable views that could upset or offend others.
The freedom to express those views is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy and a right that benefits us all.
But free speech is under threat. Growing restrictions and increasingly complex laws can make people less certain about what they can say and less confident about speaking out.
Liberty wants to protect the widest possible space for free speech, while protecting everyone’s right to live safely and peacefully.
Because the freedom to express ourselves is fundamental to who we are and how we want to live.
Freedom of speech has become a polarising topic in the UK – but it doesn’t need to be.
Rather than focusing on what divides us, Britain, Keep Complaining! seeks to improve the conversation around free speech because we all benefit from this fundamental human right.
Liberty aims to play an explanatory role, helping guide people through the debate and understand the line between lawful and unlawful speech, so everyone feels confident speaking out on the issues that matter to us.
Liberty believes it should be possible to live in a society that safeguards the widest possible space for people to express their differences and share them with others, while also protecting everyone’s right to live safely.
